Rain Barrels Available
This is your chance to sign up to receive a rain barrel from Greenlight of New Orleans at no charge. Greenlight's team will also install the rain barrel on your property.
The Fontainebleau Improvement Association (FIA) was awarded a grant by the City of New Orleans to support green infrastructure and neighborhood beautification. The FIA has partnered with Greenlight to supply, decorate, and install more than 20 rain barrels in the FIA boundaries.
If you are interested in receiving a rain barrel, please email our Secretary, Craig Toomey (cstoomey@gmail.com). In your email, please include your address, if you are an owner or a renter (renters must have permission from their landlord), and let us know if you have paid FIA dues of $25 for 2023.
If demand exceeds ~20 barrels available, we will conduct a lottery among those interested. Greenlight's barrels are painted by local artists and installed by their staff and volunteers. Barrel recipients will be announced at our December 12, 2023, neighborhood meeting.
To be eligible for a rain barrel, you must:
Be current on FIA dues of $25 per household,
Own your home or have permission from your landlord to install a rain barrel, and
Be located within the official FIA boundaries (Carrolton to Audubon Street and Walmsley to Claiborne).
NOTE: If a financial hardship prevents you from making a contribution to the FIA, please make us aware for consideration of waiving the dues requirement.
There is a limit of one rain barrel per household.
If you have not made a contribution to the FIA this year and want to do so, you can mail or drop off a check made out to the Fontainebleau Improvement Association to 24 Fontainebleau Drive, NOLA, 70125, or make a contribution online at our PayPal link. NOTE: contributions to the FIA are not tax deductible.
This is an exciting opportunity for our neighborhood as the wait for a Greenlight barrel is close to two years and incurs a suggested donation of up to $500 per barrel. We hope to have all the FIA rain barrels installed by the end of January 2024.
